Connect your router to the fibre ONU Print

  • 1

Your property has been fitted with what we call a fibre ONU. It converts the fibre signal/cable to copper RJ45 presentation so you can connect your router. The ONU requires its own power supply and you can either use a micro USB power pack or micro USB cable and connect the other end to the USB port on your router.

Your new router has been pre-configured, and it's simply a case of connecting it to your ONU and powering it on.

1) Locate the ONU in your property; it looks like this and is usually screwed to the wall near a power socket. Ensure its powered on using the appropriate USB power supply or cable to the router.

2) Take the network ethernet cable supplied with your router and connect one end to the ethernet socket on the underside of the black ONU (show below).

3) Connect the other end to the WAN socket on your new router. Routers come in all shapes and sizes but the WAN socket is usually coloured blue link in the example image below.

4) Power on your router; after a few seconds, it will connect to the internet.

5) Your wifi password will be included with the router; however, it is also written on the bottom of the router. Some routers have a QR code on the label, which you can aim your device's camera at and select Join WiFi.
